Artist Profile - Ben Kopf
Ben’s work focuses on many unique themes, but are often based around his incredible curiosity for post-apocalyptic ideas and the belief that trying circumstances bring out our true human nature. He is attracted to the aesthetic of decay, and is fascinated by man-made objects of which people were once proud, but have now been abandoned or forgotten.
Ben has always loved art and design, and took an early interest in being an artist. As a kid, he always found time for summer art classes, despite living in a treehouse most of the time. He practiced many forms of art, and went on to study both Business and Fine Art at the College of Charleston, focusing on printmaking and sculpture. While in college, he did an independent study on propaganda posters and simultaneously worked as a poster designer for several years. Ben then decided to combine his interests and attended graduate school at the Academy of Art University where he studied Advertising Art Direction. He spent the next several years living and working around the world as an Art Director and Creative Director for advertising and design agencies in San Francisco, San Juan and Copenhagen and has recently returned to San Francisco for the second time. While he loves being a “commercial artist”, Ben has finally found the time to return to creating art for himself. He is also seriously considering living in a treehouse again.
